Sue Foley is considered one of the finest blues/roots artists working today. She is internationally known as one of the best and most original artists working in her field. She is an accomplished guitarist, songwriter and vocalist. Although only in her thirties, she has been writing and playing for over twenty years. Sue is about to release her tenth studio CD called “New Used Car” due out in April 2006, which promises to take her even further down the road of an already very successful career.
She has nine other CD’s out; five from legendary Austin based blues label Antone’s, three on New York independent Shanachie and the most recent live acoustic CD ‘Change’ on Ruf Records from Germany and Justin Time in Canada. Also coming in spring 2006 is the live DVD “Sue Foley, Live in Germany” also on Ruf Records.
Sue has spent over eighteen years on the road as bandleader, lead guitar player and manager of her own band. In addition to her own shows she has shared the stage and opened up for star performers BB King, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, George Thorogood, Tom Petty, Joe Cocker and many more.
Canadian contemporary-roots songwriter Christine Graves says something new and interesting with the space and texture of her songs. Her charm is letting the audience read between the lines. Her lyrics are poetic. In concert, Graves uses vocal improvisation with her outside-the-box sense of melody. Her voice (sometimes gritty, sometimes smooth) is truly remarkable. With appearances on radio and T.V. as well as hundreds of concerts at small and large venues and festivals across the country, she has celebrated a burgeoning reputation as a“…a major songwriting talent.” (Alan Wigney, Ottawa Xpress Magazine) .
All her CD’s have aired on national CBC Radio (Richardson’s Round-up & Heartland) as well as charting on numerous campus radio stations in Canada and the US. Her songs have been short-listed in the OCFF Songs From the Heart competition. Christine was nominated for the KM Hunter Award by the Ontario Arts Council in 2000.
Pat Moore sings a country song like it should be sung. Says Larry Delaney (Country Music News), “Moore pours her heart and soul” into her performance. Patrick Langston (The Ottawa Citizen) talks of how she “dissects pain with warmth and clear-sightedness. Her full, clear voice is enriched by often-lush backing vocals that underscore the singer’s emotional isolation.”
Born in Ottawa, Pat Moore’s influences are wide and varied, from country and bluegrass to traditional jazz and “roots” music. Her interpretative style and warm strong voice captures the listeners’ attention and her live performances have a natural spontaneity, picking up the mood of the audience and presenting each song in a personal and entertaining way.
Playing jazz and blues infused folk-funk, Tell Mama has been steadily carving a niche for themselves in Eastern Ontario since 2002.
Tell Mama’s “Kick Ass Jass” – a blend of sophisticated jazz, hungry blues, edgy rock and mellow funk – is as entertaining as it is eclectic. The band’s sultry vocals, infectious beat and inventive style deliver original material and timeless favourites in a way that is strong, sexy, danceable and, above all, fun to listen to.
