Christine Graves plans to perform at Night Before fundraiser

Christine GravesCanadian contemporary-roots songwriter Christine Graves says something new and interesting with the space and texture of her songs. Her charm is letting the audience read between the lines. Her lyrics are poetic. In concert, Graves uses vocal improvisation with her outside-the-box sense of melody. Her voice (sometimes gritty, sometimes smooth) is truly remarkable. With appearances on radio and T.V. as well as hundreds of concerts at small and large venues and festivals across the country, she has celebrated a burgeoning reputation as a“…a major songwriting talent.” (Alan Wigney, Ottawa Xpress Magazine) .

All her CD’s have aired on national CBC Radio (Richardson’s Round-up & Heartland) as well as charting on numerous campus radio stations in Canada and the US. Her songs have been short-listed in the OCFF Songs From the Heart competition. Christine was nominated for the KM Hunter Award by the Ontario Arts Council in 2000. She started and organized the fusion songwriters-in-the-round series, “Lucky Songs” at Ottawa’s Downstairs Club and Lucky Ron’s from 1999 to 2001, until it moved to The Black Sheep Inn in 2002.On her last release in 2001, stray, she became known for her superb interpretations of other artists (Tom Waits & Fred J. Eaglesmith) Graves was born in Halifax and has lived in BC and Ontario most of her life. She makes rural Ontario her home, living in a quaint one-room schoolhouse in Lanark County.
